Highgrove residents are enjoying the new and nearby shopping center, Ballantyne Village, at Highway 521 and Johnston Road. New tenants include I.C. London (lingerie and loungewear), Lions Ltd. Fine Jewelry, Jesse Brown's Outdoors and Vera's Jewelry, along with new, locally owned restaurants such as Table and Vesuvio.
Ballantyne Village also includes Modern Salon, Villa Antonio, Panera Bread, Ballantyne Boutique, the ABC Board and Under the Grape wine shop. And, Charlotte-based Consolidated Theaters is opening a five-screen, 990-seat art and independent movie theater at the center.
Music to our ears …
Highgrove kids are attending – and walking to – a brand, new middle school. Community House Middle School is serving students in grades 5 and 6 this year. The following year (2006-07), the school will serve grades 5-7. In 2007-08 and subsequent years, the school will serve grades 6-8.
Due to the grade level configuration over the next three years, Community House fifth graders get a head start in band, orchestra, choir and foreign languages.
In an interview in Charlotte Weekly, Principal Gifford Lockley – a trained opera singer – said, “‘Music enriches your life the way nothing else can.’ Already, 100 students are signed up for band, and the school also will offer orchestra, after-school musical theater, drama club and chorus.”
Lockley continued, “‘We’re going to give these kids the most rigorous curriculum but not at the expense of having fun.’”
And, another new school …
What’s more, there is a new high school under construction on Ardrey Kell Road that Highgrove students can walk to. Designed by LS3P Architects, the design includes the construction of a new facility with a capacity of 2,000 students. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Web site indicates that construction is expected to be completed by August 2006.
Timeless
Highgrove, with its timeless architecture, may look like a decades-old neighborhood … but its homes are thoroughly modern.
You’ll find superb attention to detail and some of the finest luxury appointments in every home. Exotic hardwoods, hand-selected antique doors and hammered copper farm sinks grace several of the homes and add to the interior's palette. And, every Highgrove home adds style to K.P. duty with granite countertops, custom cabinetry and leading-edge appliances. Bosch® and Jenn-Aire® are two of the upscale brand names you’ll admire in these professional-grade kitchens.
